♥2 READ-A-Thon

Reading is IN STYLE!
The ♥ 2 Read-A-Thon excitement kicked off on Friday, October 2, with our all new, CHARACTER COUTURE FASHION SHOWS that showcased the latest couture in reading. Theme inspired music accompanied a runway flowing with student supermodels sporting the look of popular, style-setting book characters. Special guests, Willy Wonka (Binford) and Cinderalla (Rogers) hosted our shows. Book lovers were in literature heaven as they soak up the latest in character couture.
HOW THE READ-A-THON WORKS
This program has two goals:
1. To inspire a LOVE OF READING within each student.
(READ at least 15 minutes per day)
2. To raise money for Rogers –Binford schools.
(Collect on average $25 per student)
100% of the proceeds from the Read-A-Thon go directly to our schools benefiting the student’s learning in the classroom and in the library. Examples of where we have spent our fundraising money in the past are listed on the back of the pledge sheet.
THE RULES
From October 2 – 25 students will track their reading minutes and record them on their READING TRACKING SHEET. All reading outside the school day counts, whether students are reading to themselves, reading to someone else, or having someone read to them. Since self-initiated reading is being encouraged, TIME READ DURING SCHOOL DOES NOT COUNT. Reading time ends Sunday, October, 25th, and students must submit their tracking form on Monday, October 26th.
Pledges: Students will contact sponsors to pledge a certain amount of money for each minute read or for a set amount. For safety reasons students are to contact only friends, family members and people they know.
PRIZES:
WEEKLY PRIZES (FRIDAYS): For every 60 minutes read, students will receive a special ticket (Rogers – Magic Leaf / Binford –Golden Ticket) to be entered into a weekly drawing for fun prizes. Teachers will also have tickets to reward students showing extraordinary reading effort. The students need to bring their tracking sheets (initialed by a parent) to school EACH FRIDAY to be eligible to win a prize.
SUPERSTAR PRIZES: The top two readers for each grade and the top 20 fundraisers will get to ride in a limo to go see a feature film (based on children’s book) at the theatre during school.
Come see our creative tracking system in our schools. Rogers classrooms will showcase their reading hours with a growing (by the minute!), colorful caterpillar based on the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Binford classrooms will show off their hours read by earning Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory gobstoppers that will flow through the walls and onto the ceilings.
READ-A-THON BOOKMARKS Promote and Inspire:
Promote your business, your service, or your organization while inspiring a love of reading with fun bookmarks for our students.
For $199 you will get 500 bookmarks professionally designed (or you can submit your own artwork) and professionally printed. We will distribute your bookmarks to our students to use for their reading, to collect and to trade with their friends.
Bookmark order forms are included in each student’s Read-A-Thon packet. Extra order forms are available at the office and on the website. For questions or to order a bookmark, call Kelly King at 369-6199.
CELEBRATION
Tentatively scheduled for NOVEMBER 6TH.
On Celebration Day EVERYONE in the schools will come dressed in CHARACTER! Start thinking of what character you will be.
CLASSROOM PARTIES: Each classroom will plan and schedule its own creative book-themed party.
Things to Remember
FRIDAYS
Bring your “Weekly Tracking Sheet” to school on Fridays to collect your Magic Leaves or Golden Tickets to enter the drawing to win a prize. (THIS IS THE WHITE SHEET WITH A GRID FOR EACH WEEK. Students can CUT OUT each week THEN SUBMIT IT TO THEIR TEACHER ON FRIDAY MORNING. This sheet is a duplicate tracking sheet for the prizes. The student will submit the MASTER TRACKING SHEET (colored paper that came in the packet) on the last day of the program.
